Culturapedia to develop new programme of arts and creative activities for Blackburn with Darwen Libraries

Residents across Blackburn with Darwen are set to benefit from a new programme of live arts and creative activities, thanks to £90,000 of Arts Council England funding for the area.

Blackburn with Darwen Libraries, Blackpool Libraries and locally based arts organisation Culturapedia are joining forces to use the cash to bring more live arts experiences into local communities.

The two-year programme will give residents the opportunity to enjoy theatre, music, poetry, art and craft sessions and much more – all in venues at the heart of their communities.

The programme builds on the library services’ previous successful programme of music and theatre events delivered through Culturapedia’s Spot On Lancashire programme.

It will also build on exciting developments within local library spaces, including the new Blackburn Market Arts Centre, which opened over the summer. The centre incorporates a library and performance space alongside Lancashire’s smallest art gallery.

Planning for the new programme is already under way, with the first events expected to take place over the coming months.

Once announced, events will be ticketed, with prices heavily subsidised to help ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to experience live arts and creative activities close to home.

Sue Robinson, Co -Director of Culturapedia says:

“We are delighted to be able to continue our partnership with Blackburn with Darwen libraries and build on our new relationship with the team in Blackpool. By working together we can ensure more people in the borough can find an affordable event or creative activity they enjoy on their doorstep.”

The ACE funding will also support local artist development, community-led residencies and opportunities for library staff and volunteers to develop new skills and learning in creative arts.
