As part of International Women’s Day 2026 we asked you to send in stories of women who are the stars of rural touring.
We are delighted to feature some of those culture champions here. From those at the heartbeat of schemes to volunteer promoters who tirelessly champion culture at the centre of rural communities.
You responded with stories about inspirational women in our sector bringing rural touring to life…
‘Yvonne remains as passionate about rural touring from the first day I met her…”
Kerry Bartlett from Artsreach raves about a woman who has been part of the rural touring sector for more than a quarter of a century – Yvonne Gallimore (pictured above in orange).
Kerry said: “I’d champion Yvonne as a woman in rural touring that has inspires me. Yvonne has been part of the Artsreach team for over 25 years and remains as passionate now about Artsreach and the rural touring model as the very first day I met her.
“Yvonne strongly advocates for the impact we can have on individuals and, above anything, striving to keep our volunteers and our audiences at the heart of what we do.
“Alongside having a keen eye for seeking out those magical, memorable and unique productions and artists that will challenges and inspire our audiences, Yvonne has been dedicated to developing creative participatory opportunities that use arts and culture to bring people together, break down barriers and reach out to those most in need within our communities.
“Yvonne’s ‘can do’ attitude and loyalty to our mission is inspiring to be around.. Our volunteers will testify to her calm approach supportive nature and unwavering passion for rural touring. I am proud to have learnt so much someone who denies any depth of knowledge at all!”
“Dawn drives rural touring forward…”
The team at Applause got in touch to champion a figure at the heart of rural touring – Dawn Badland.
