“The Night Out scheme has been transformative for us…” – Village Halls Week 2026

19 March 2026

Entirely run by dedicated volunteers, the 116-year-old Neuadd Bentref Llangoed Village Hall is a cultural oasis in beautiful north Wales. .

One of the biggest halls on the island of Anglesey it rose into being thanks to the people of Llangoed.

In 1910 the community rallied to raise £1500 – a project boosted by two local families – The Chadwick family of Haulfre and the Massey family of Cornelyn.

More than a century on the hall remains a crucial part of community life. And it is embracing and evolving in modern times.

Today, the hall is home to community groups, concerts, festivals, exercise classes, children’s playgroups, a horticultural show, private parties, workshops, weddings, performances, cinema nights and much more.

“Our hall has served generations of Llangoed residents and their friends as a welcoming space”

NRTF spotlights Llangoed Village Hall as part of Village Halls Week 2026. We spoke to Julie Upmeyer about what this special place means to the community.

And the famous Anglesey weather shone as volunteers gathered for a photo outside this fabulous place.

Julie, Llangoed Village Hall has a great history, tell us more!

Julie: Neuadd Bentref Llangoed Village Hall has been at the heart of community life on Ynys Môn for more than a century. Built in 1910, it has served generations of Llangoed residents and their friends as a welcoming space for celebrations, performances, meetings and community events.

Today the hall continues to thrive as a volunteer-run hub, hosting a wide range of activities including workshops, concerts, wellbeing classes, a long-running horticultural show, children’s groups, parties and cultural events.

“Bringing the silver screen to audiences”

And the hall has embraced technology recently?

Julie: One of its most exciting recent developments is ‘Sinema Llangoed’, a community cinema equipped with a 4K Ultra HD projector, professional sound system and five-metre cinema screen.

This initiative has enabled regular film screenings, local premieres and special events, bringing high-quality and innovative cinematic experiences to audiences throughout North Wales.

“These events enrich cultural life in the village”

Tell us about your work with Night Out Wales

Julie: The Night Out Scheme has been transformative for the hall, bringing high-quality touring theatre, music and live shows from across the UK that might otherwise only reach larger venues.

These events enrich cultural life in the village, platforming both Welsh and English language performances, all while creating shared moments that bring the community together.

Through the dedication of volunteers and strong partnerships, Llangoed Village Hall continues to evolve – honouring its history while creating new opportunities for connection, creativity and cultural activity.

Village Halls Week takes place between 16-22 March.

It is organised by Action with Communities in Rural England.
