Culturapedia Brings Arts and Culture to Blackburn and Darwen Market Halls and Beyond.

Culturapedia, the organisation behind Spot On Lancashire, continues its mission to bring accessible arts and culture to communities, transforming democratic spaces into lively hubs of creativity. For the past three years, Culturapedia has partnered with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and Arts Council England to deliver free live performances and workshop activities in Blackburn and Darwen’s Market Halls, attracting a growing hyper-local audience and visitors from neighbouring towns.

Spot On Lancashire has been a pioneer in promoting exceptional artists in rural halls for nearly three decades and in libraries for the past twelve years. Extending this commitment the free activities in the Market Halls have successfully introduced arts and culture to individuals who might not otherwise encounter it.

Audience feedback for this year’s activities has been overwhelmingly positive:

  • “We come here every school holiday. We love all the craft sessions.”
  • “My favourite activity of the year.”
  • “A great experience for the whole family.”
  • “We love the activities in the market – usually things we don’t normally think of.”
  • “We have had a fantastic experience today.”

This summer, in collaboration with Blackburn BID (Business Improvement District), Culturapedia is expanding its reach across the town centre. This initiative has resulted in an impressive programme of 31 days of activities scheduled throughout the summer holidays across both Blackburn and Darwen. This joined-up programming approach also allows for extended contracts, integrating Culturapedia’s other projects, including Spot On, with much of the outdoor work programmed in partnership with Applause.

Lyndsey Wilson says: “We’re delighted to be showcasing some of the brand new work commissioned by Applause this summer. Companies such as LAStheatre, Sonia Sabri Company and Enter Edem bring such a high calibre of performance to our town centres and we’re sure our audiences will love them. We’re also proud to be showcasing great Northern talent with craft workshops, skills sessions and shows from bhangra dancer, Sohan Kailey, visual artist, Molly Bland, poet, Ella Otomewo and circus artist, Gemma Bond.”
