RTDI speaks to community volunteer, Tim, at Broadmayne Village Hall
Back in March, Pagrav Dance Company visited Broadmayne Village Hall on their RTDI tour. Alongside putting on a spellbinding show, Pagrav also provided two workshops for the community: a Rangoli art workshop for children, and a dance workshop for local movement group Movers & Shakers. Their visit was supported by Artsreach.
We caught up with Broadmayne Village Hall Community Volunteer, Tim, who has been supporting rural arts and events in his area.

What made you want to get involved and become a community volunteer?
I went to an Artsreach show at Broadmayne Village Hall while someone else was the promoter, and I understood the ethos and value of Rural Touring. When he stopped being the promoter, I leapt at the chance to influence what we could bring to the village, and let more people know what it is all about.
How important are events like these for your community?
The shows are greatly appreciated by people who can walk or take a short drive into the village to see a professional show in whichever artform it takes at an affordable price.
Do you get to see much dance in your area?
I do not get to see much dance in my area. Having said that, of 4 dance performances I have seen through Artsreach, two have been fantastic (Aakash Odedra and Pagrav Dance).

What makes a great rural show?
A great rural show is a professional or professional quality event staged at a small local venue, which enables people to see shows which otherwise they may not have the opportunity to experience for reasons of cost, difficulty travelling longer distances, not being comfortable with large crowded venues.
The Rural Touring Dance Initiative is a national project that supports dance artists and rural promoters to make great dance performance events happen in rural spaces.
